The saddest sunflower

29 Sep

I was walking down Wilson as the Sun was tucking himself into bed when I noticed the saddest sunflower I had ever seen. She had her head bowed down submitting to Fall and his crisp, bright arrival. The sky was so blue it could only have been her tears overflowing as she stood all alone watching the world pass her by.

Pick it up!

26 Sep

The October issue of the Washingtonian is on stands now!! Go ahead and pick up a copy… or three! My photo is featured on page twelve accompanied by a small article. Yes, I was lying in the gutter. Yes, the world (or maybe just washingtonian subscribers) now know my picture secrets!

Can’t Get Enough

23 Sep

I know, I know! I just posted these same birdies bathing amidst any passerby but I just had to get a few more captures. Apparently, bath time is a daily ritual for our fine, feathered friends so when I rushed outside at 2pm and they were frolicking about…I was ready!

I am off to Dewey Beach this weekend to participate in the 14th Annual Dewey Beach Triathalon! To be honest, the open swim has my threat levels close to an orange but thankfully, Danny and Steve will be swimming, biking, and running right along with me. Plus, as an added bonus Katie will be on the sidelines cheering us all on. Speaking of Danny…what a rockstar! Last weekend he finished the Reston Tri in an unbelievable time (under 2.5 hours!) shaving almost twenty minutes from his swim from the last year. I was there to snap some pics and support him along the way.  Two tri’s in two consecutive weekends?? I couldn’t be more proud of my guy!

Splish Splash

16 Sep

Afternoons are meant for coffee breaks. On my way to get my 2:30pm fix, I happened upon a lovely display of public bathing. It was only about three minutes of hygiene upkeep but I’m so happy I had my camera with me to capture it.

Normi, Parker, & Ferris: A Family Session

15 Sep

This past weekend I had the opportunity to spend time with Normi, Parker, and Ferris Brown. While the sun didn’t seem to want to join in on the fun; ice cream, balloons, and giant lollipops brought more than a few smiles and lots of laughs. I can’t even begin to describe how much fun I had with this adorable family. They are so full of life and love that it was hard for me not to just drop the camera, run over and give them a giant hug. Parker, three and a half, was such a ham. In typical little boy fashion he was running around, giggling and laughing the entire day which had his little sister, Ferris, highly entertained with all of his antics. Normi is such a wonderful mom and so easy to work with, not to mention she could be a model! A big, huge thanks to Anne for providing the scenery, special treats, and doing an amazing “cheese dance” that had us all in stitches! Here are just a few of my favorite captures of the day!

Pretty Sweet

10 Sep

I love the DCist! It is chock full of all the happenings in the city with a mix of politics, sports, and all things hip. It is always a thrill when a picture of mine gets posted on their site!

It all comes to an end…

9 Sep

Instead of January 1, Labor Day should be the start of every new year. Fall is a season of new beginnings. It is when papers and pencils commence their trek to the classroom, footballs are thrown in celebration of weekly SundayFundays, and trees, and birds alike, await the dawn of the next season. In one final attempt to celebrate the long and lazy days of the past three months, I headed to Virginia Beach to attend a wedding of a good friend. While there, I ended up with some free time to slip off my shoes and squish my toes in the sand. The day felt lovely but as the Sun said good-bye I realized that all I could do was take in the beauty and, once again, begin the wait for another summer.
